Since FY06, Shelby County government has been implementing an efficiency plan. Most recently, more than $1 million in savings has been documented from the Enterprise Planning for Technology initiative. This effort began by identifying redundancies in technology among County offices, and is now focused on long-range enterprise planning. As an example, in the Department of Codes global positioning systems now in approximately 90 vehicles help save time and fuel and contribute to employee security. Upgraded technology also allows employees to file reports electronically from the field, promoting better and more efficient record-keeping.
